Competitive Scholarship Opportunities for Non-U.S. Citizens and International Students
There are a variety of scholarship opportunities that are available to international students and to students who are not U.S. citizens. While we cannot advise for every single scholarship, we do want to make students aware of these opportunities. Please see the two lists of opportunities below to learn more.

DAAD RISE Scholarship (Sophomore, Junior)
A German Academic Exchange Service for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. This scholarship is a two or three-month summer internship to conduct research and be mentored by doctoral students at a German university. German language skills are not required for most positions but would be helpful to manage everyday life outside of the laboratory. Deadline is in December annually.
This global scholarship is for intellectually outstanding postgraduate students with a capacity for leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of others to pursue full-time residential courses of study at the University of Cambridge for one to three year degree programs of study. UK citizens are not eligible.
Rhodes scholarships are the oldest and most celebrated international fellowship awards in the world, and provide all expenses for two or three years of study at the University of Oxford. Scholars are chosen not only for outstanding scholarly achievements (3.9-4.0 GPA) but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead. Scholars must be between 18-24 and have completed a bachelor’s degree prior to study at Oxford.
Designed to prepare future leaders for success in a world where China plays a key global role, this is a fully-funded program with opportunities to live in Beijing for a year of study and cultural immersion, attend lectures, travel, and gain first-hand exposure to China. Scholars will study for a one-year master’s degree with options to focus on: Public Policy, Economics and Business, and International Studies. All courses are taught in English. Scholars will also have the opportunity to participate in a mentoring program linking them to business, political and civil society leaders through internships with global and national institutions and corporations based in Beijing.
Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program
Each year the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program will identify a group of 100 high-achieving students from around the world with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment to receive full funding to pursue a wide-ranging graduate education at Stanford, with the goal of developing a new generation of global leaders.

The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides Financial Aid and scholarship opportunities yearly for members.
American Association for University Women - International Fellowships
International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited U.S. institutions are supported. Applicants must have earned the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree by September 30, 2014, and must have applied to their proposed institutions of study by the time of the application. Up to five International Master’s/First Professional Degree Fellowships are renewable for a second year. Deadline: November.
American Scandinavian Foundation
The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers over $500,000 in funding to Scandinavians to undertake study or research programs (usually at the graduate level) in the United States for up to one year. Candidates for awards are recommended to the ASF by our cooperating organizations. In order to apply submit applications to the appropriate cooperative organization (see below). Awards are made in all fields. Eligible candidates must be citizens of one of the following countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden. Deadlines variable.
Armenian Students Association of Americas, Inc.
The purposes of this Association are educational and charitable, in that it shall encourage educational pursuits by Armenians in America and the raising of their intellectual standards, provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships and loans to deserving Armenian students, develop fellowship among them, cultivate in them the spirit of service in the public interest, and acquaint them and the entire American community with Armenian culture. Full-time students of Armenian ancestry are eligible to apply for scholarships of $500 to $1,500 per year. Applicants should either have US citizenship or have the appropriate visa status. Applicants should be able to demonstrate financial need and good academic performance. Deadlines variable.
Whether Asian or American, whether a cutting-edge painter or a traditional dancer, whether a classical musician or a modern cultural archeologist—any gifted individual artist or scholar who seeks to grow in his or her craft or field can apply for funding to conduct research and study, receive specialized training, undertake observation tours, or pursue non-commercial creative activity in the United States or among the countries of Asia. Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Program
It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB's developing member countries* to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region. Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries. The ADB-JSP enrolls about 300 students annually in participating academic institutions located in 10 countries within the region, and provides full scholarships for one to two years. Applicants from graduated member countries, i.e., Hong Kong, China, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, and Taipei,China, are no longer eligible to apply. Deadlines: variable.
Belgian American Education Fund, Inc.
The foundation offers fellowships for study or/and research in the United States, or opportunities for study/research in Belgium. In addition to the amounts indicated, BAEF also pays for health insurance at the US institution. Fellows are Belgian citizens, who are expected to stay in the USA for a full academic year at a US institution or for a full year to do research institution. Deadline: October 31st.
Established by the University of Cambridge, UK in order to support international students. Offers full and part scholarships at all levels applications are made to the University, not the trust. Some scholarships require additional application to a funding partner. Deadline: Early December
The Newman Civic Fellows Award honors inspiring college student leaders who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country. Through service, research, and advocacy, Newman Civic Fellows are making the most of their college experiences to better understand themselves, the root causes of social issues, and effective mechanisms for creating lasting change. These students represent the next generation of public problem solvers and civic leaders. They serve as national examples of the role that higher education can—and does—play in building a better world. Deadline: April-May annually.
Canon Collins Scholarship for Masters Study in the UK
Canon Collins offers a variety of scholarships and funding for nationals or those with refugee status from Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. This scholarship partners with specific UK institutions to fund full tuition fees, a monthly stipend, a return economy flight, a settling-in allowance and other support whilst in the UK.
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellow Program
Each year the endowment offers approximately 10-12 one-year fellowships to uniquely qualified graduating seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year. They are selected from a pool of nominees from close to 400 participating colleges. Carnegie junior fellows work as research assistants to the endowment's senior associates. Those who have begun graduate studies are not eligible for consideration. Certain universities are eligible. Year -long paid internship in international affairs at the Carnegie Endowment for World Peace in Washington DC for graduating seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. Deadline: October-January.
Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one-year Master's degrees – for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision makers and opinion formers. To be eligible you must: be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country (see map for details), and intend to return there for a minimum of two years after your Chevening Award has finished. People with dual British citizenship cannot apply, unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong. Deadlines vary per country.

Confucius China Studies Program Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship
Will accept applications from both US and non-US citizens, other than citizens of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan provided they are enrolled in a US institution.
The Lime Connect Fellowship Program
This fellowship program is our flagship program in the U.S. designed for highly accomplished rising juniors with disabilities. This highly selective program: guides Fellows through the summer internship recruitment process; connects them with our corporate partners - some of the world's leading corporations - for potential Summer 2016 internships; deepens their leadership skills; prepares them for success in their internship; builds their confidence as a person with a disability; engages them in a Lime Connect Fellowship community, consisting of current and past Fellows; and provides access to prestigious scholarships. Eligibility: must be a current sophomore at a four-year university in the U.S., and will continue their studies as a full-time student for the following academic year; eligible to work in the United States; a person with a (visible or invisible) disability
Need-based grants (up to $6,000) to undergraduate or graduate students who are able to do academic work at the college level, and are actively working for peace and justice. Grantees must receive college credits for the time period covered by their grant. Open to non-US citizens who are attending an accredited university. Deadline: April 1st.
Echoing Green Foundation Fellowships
Provides seed funding and support to more than 450 social entrepreneurs with bold ideas for social change in order to launch groundbreaking organizations around the world. A stipend of $60,000 for individuals ($90,000 for 2- person partnerships) paid in four equal installments over two years. Must demonstrate sufficient English fluency to participate in interviews and Echoing Green events. The fellowship includes: the Global Fellowship, the Black Male Achievement Fellowship, and the Climate Fellowship. Deadline: sometime in October-November.
Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship
Muskie fellows enroll in full-time non-degree or degree programs at IREX’s partner universities, enriching graduate classrooms with new international perspectives and valuable professional experience. Fellowships are awarded to young and mid-career individuals who are citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, or Uzbekistan.
Eurasian Undergraduate Exchange Program (UGRAD)
Through U.S.-based training and practical experience in leadership, life skills, civic engagement, and internships, youth leaders are empowered to implement long-term civic and economic changes in their communities. The selected students study in a non-degree program for an academic year at an American university or community college. When Global UGRAD students return to finish college in their home countries, they share what they have learned and contribute to the development of their own communities. This is open to students of Eurasia to first-, second-, and third-year undergraduate students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Finlandia Foundation National Trust Scholarship
The Foundation invites high-quality projects on a competitive basis that relate to past, present or future of Finnish and Finnish-American culture and are characterized by MANY of the following: receives favorable attention and has a high profile and visibility; appeals to all Americans, not only ethnic Finns; involves worthy activity for children and young adults to assure an interest in Finnish and Finnish-American culture by future generations; can be replicated or become a permanent addition to the cultural life of a community; has a detailed budget, income and expenses; and adds to the body of research about Finnish and Finnish-American culture. The Finnish Cultural Foundation
The Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation seeks to promote and develop cultural and economic life in Finland by providing support for increased knowledge of, and contact between, the culture, economy, and people of the two countries. Ford School Fellowship Programs
Through its Fellowship Programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. Eligibility to apply for a Ford fellowship is limited to: all citizens, nationals and permanent residents (holders of a Permanent Resident Card) of the United States, and individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, regardless of race, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation; individuals with evidence of superior academic achievement (such as grade point average, class rank, honors or other designations); individuals committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level. There are three levels of the fellowship program, including predoctoral, dissertation, and postdoctoral.
Educational exchanges that strengthen understanding and communication between the United States and over students from 140 countries. Students interested in applying for the Fulbright Student Program must apply through the Fulbright Program Office in their home country. Deadlines variable.
Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowships
For college graduates to serve 6 – 9 months with a participating organization of their choice in Washington DC while receiving a stipend. Prospective Fellows are expected to demonstrate excellent academic accomplishments and a strong interest in issues of peace and security. Graduate study, a college major, course work, or substantial independent reading that reflects the substantive focus of the fellowship is also a plus. Prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy is highly desirable. U.S. citizens and applicants with a visa are able to apply. Deadline: October (Spring), January (Fall).
Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships
Community college students who are sophomores or recent alumni. Open to all fields of study at any accredited university in the US. Meant to enable community college students to transfer to a 4-year institution in order to complete a bachelor’s degree. Award is up to $30,000 per year for an average of 2.5 years. Deadline: November.
Josephine de Karman Scholarships
Approximately eight (8) fellowships, $22,000 for graduate students and $14,000 for undergraduate students, will be awarded for the regular academic year (fall and spring semesters or the equivalent where the quarterly system prevails), paid through the fellowship office of the university in which the recipient is enrolled for study in the United States. Study must be carried out only in the United States and all funds must be expended only within this country. DeKarman fellowships are open to students in any discipline, including international students, who are currently enrolled in a university or college located within the United States. Only candidates for the PhD who will defend their dissertation in or about June 2016 and undergraduates entering their senior year (will receive bachelors degree in June 2016) are eligible for consideration. Postdoctoral and masters degree students are not eligible for consideration. Special consideration will be given to applicants in the Humanities. Deadline: January 31st.
The Li Foundation, Inc. Student Scholar Grants
Since 1944, the Li Foundation has provided financial aid to hundreds of outstanding Chinese scholars. The Foundation works with top level Universities and Institutions in the United States and China to establish a variety of quality programs. In every case, Li scholars are selected by the host institutions using a rigorous process involving a selection committee. NOTE: The Li Foundation does not award grants directly to individuals. Grants vary by discipline, but only fund graduate level students. Deadlines variable.
Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Grants
Awards five to six grants to women from developing countries about $12,000 each year to help further their education and strengthen their leadership skills to improve the lives of women and children in the developing world. Women must be enrolled in accredited universities.
The Norway-America Association
The Norway-America Association (NORAM) is an non-profit organization that since 1919 has helped Norwegian students to study in North-America, and American students to study in Norway. NORAM awards approximately five scholarships for American students who will attend graduate school or do PhD research here. Applicants must be members of the Norway-America Association (NAA) and must have completed a minimum of a Bachelor's degree. Award amounts range from $ 2,000 to $20,000. Deadline: January
Organization of American States (OAS) Fellowships
This organization offers general scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study. All applications must be submitted through the corresponding National Liaison Office in your country. OAS academic scholarships are awarded for no more than two years of full-time studies at any university in an OAS member state, with the exception of the applicant’s sponsoring country. Deadlines: vary by member state.
Paul and Daisy Soros Foundation Fellowship for New Americans
For seniors or recent graduates to pursue up to two years of graduate study in any field and in any advanced degree- granting program in the United States. Each award is for up to $25,000 in maintenance grants and up to $20,000 in tuition support for each year of graduate study supported, a total of as much as $90,000. The program is intended to support individuals who will continue to regard the U.S. as their principal residence and focus of national identity. This fellowship is eligible to people who fall into one of the following categories: naturalized US citizen; will have a valid green card by the application deadline; US citizen by birth but neither of your parents were US citizens at the times of their births; born outside of the US and adopted by American parents or awarded US citizenship as a result of your adoption; you have granted deferred action under the government’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi currently awards fifty-one Fellowships of $5,000 each and six at $15,000 each to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Each active Phi Kappa Phi chapter may select one candidate from among its local applicants to compete for the Society-wide awards. To be eligible, you must be an active member of Phi Kappa Phi or have accepted membership by June 30 of the year in which you are applying. You must also have applied to enroll as a full-time student in a post-baccalaureate program of study for the current academic year. Accredited international institutions are acceptable, and international students can apply. Deadline: varies by local chapter
Rhodes Scholarships for Non-U.S. Citizens
1-3 years of study at Oxford University for citizens of Australia, Bangladesh, Bermuda, Canada, Commonwealth Caribbean and Jamaica, Germany, Hong Kong, India Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Deadline: Early October.
The primary goal of this foundation is to provide financial support to various activities associated with Rotalia, such as academic scholarships, travel grants, and to support Rotalia’s publications, libraries, archives, conferences and sporting events. Scholarships and research grants for individuals in the U.S. and abroad who read, speak, and understand Estonian. Grants are given at all levels – undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, and for research. Samuel Huntington Public Service Fellowship Award
Stipend of $15,000 for a graduating college senior to pursue public one year of service anywhere in the world. The award allows recipients to engage in a meaningful public service activity for one year before proceeding on to graduate school or a career. Deadline: January.
Unless noted otherwise, all Smithsonian fellowships (graduate, pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, senior) opportunities are open to non-US citizens. Applicants are evaluated on their academic standing, scholarly qualifications, experiences, the quality of the research project or study proposed and its suitability to Smithsonian collections, facilities, and programs. Deadlines variable.
South Pacific and East Timor Scholarship Programs
The United States–South Pacific Scholarship Program, authorized by the U.S. Congress and funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, is a competitive, merit-based scholarship program that provides opportunities for Master’s degree study at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in fields that are directly relevant to the development needs of Pacific island countries. Professional degrees (law, architecture, medicine) are not funded. Individuals who have dual citizenship, one being that of the United States, are not eligible. U.S. non-citizens and U.S. permanent residents are also not eligible. All scholarship recipients must be able to meet the requirements of the Exchange Visitor (J-1 visa) program. Deadline: January-February.
Statens Lanekasse for Utdanning
Provides educational grants and loans for Norwegian students abroad. Citizens of an EEA or EFTA country who have accrued rights in Norway are also eligible. Normally, grants are only given to people who have a consecutive period of at least two years of residency in Norway during the five years before the education begins. Applicants must be in at least their sophomore year of undergraduate study. Apply for funding as soon as you get accepted to your desired program of study.
The Studenica Foundation was established by Serbs from America with the goal of helping the education of young talents from the Motherland. Scholarships granted to students from state universities in Serbia are only for those who are in their last two years of undergraduate studies. Master degree students may also apply but priority is given to undergraduate students. Deadline: December
The Sweden-American Foundation
Awards approximately 40 fellowships for graduate, postgraduate and post-doc studies in the U.S. and Canada. Only Swedish citizens with a completed undergraduate degree are eligible to apply. Every year, the Sweden-America Foundation awards approximately 40 fellowships for Graduate, Postgraduate and Post Doc Studies in the United States and Canada. Deadline: September 13th.
Swiss Benevolent Society of New York Scholarships
Merit based awards for study at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels both in the U.S. and abroad. To be eligible, the applicant must be or have parents who are Swiss nationals. Applicants for Pellegrini and Zimmerman scholarships and the OSA award must be residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania or Delaware. Applicants for Medicus grants for study in Switzerland must reside in the United States. Deadline: March.
The Company Swiss-American Society awards per year CHF 15'000-20'000 on scholarship contributions. These contributions are intended as a funding supplement and be in 5-7 candidates who are either Swiss or have long ties with Switzerland. This scholarship is oriented to those who want to continue their education in the United States with the goal of a university degree.
Albright Institute Fellowships
The Albright annually provides up to $330,000 in fellowships and awards to 32 recipients. In addition, 32 Associate Fellows including Senior, Post-Doctoral, and Research Fellows receive funding from other sources. Fellowships are open to students and scholars in Near Eastern studies from prehistory through the early Islamic period, including the fields of archaeology, anthropology, art history, Bible, epigraphy, historical geography, history, language, literature, philology and religion and related disciplines. The research period should be continuous, without frequent trips outside the country. Residence at the Albright is required (except for the Frerichs Fellow/Program Coordinator). The option to accommodate dependents is subject to space available at the Albright.
Allen Lee Hughes BIPOC Fellowship
Individuals interested in artistic and technical production, arts administration and community engagement. Fellowships are designed for recent graduates (undergraduate or graduate) and career changers interested in pursuing a career in the professional theater. Fellowship provides a modest stipend and is intended to increase participation of people of color in the arts. Deadline: mid-March (summer), mid-April (season).
American Architectural Foundation and Sir John Soane's Museum Foundation Traveling Fellowship
The purpose of the Sir John Soane's Museum Foundation Traveling Fellowship is to enable students in graduate degree programs in the history of art, architecture, interior design, and the decorative arts to travel to London to pursue research projects related to any aspect of the work of Sir John Soane or Sir John Soane's Museum and its collections. Annually, the Foundation entertains and reviews proposals from qualified candidates from universities and institutions around the world. Two awards are presented - one to a student of architecture and the second open to all candidates. Recipients are selected by Sir John Soane's Museum Foundation Fellowship Advisory Committee. Fellowship amount is $5,000.
American Center of Research Scholarships and Fellowships
The foundation offers a series of monetary grants and fellowships based on archeological research within the Middle East and/or specifically Jordan, and is open to various nationalities. This is available to pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students. Deadlines variable.
Bibliographical Society of America Fellowship Program
The Society invites applications for its seventh annual Katharine Pantzer Senior Fellowship in Bibliography and the British Book Trades as well as its annual short-term fellowships, all of which support bibliographical inquiry and research in the history of the book trades and in publishing history. Eligible topics may concentrate on books and documents in any field, but should focus on the book or manuscript (the physical object) as historical evidence. Such topics may include establishing a text or studying the history of book production, publication, distribution, collecting, or reading. Stipend amounts vary.
BMI Foundations offers a series of scholarships for various music and art related fellowships and awards. Some geographical restrictions may apply. Most scholarships are open to citizens of a country in the Western Hemisphere, but require either current or previous attendance at a US university. Deadlines variable.
Dissertation Fellowship in Women’s Studies
The Institute for Citizens & Scholars Women’s Studies program, the only national fellowship for doctoral work on issues of women and gender, supports dissertation writing for Ph.D. candidates in the humanities and social sciences doing interdisciplinary and original work on these issues. Applicants must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program in the United States.
Dumbarton Oaks offers residential fellowships in three areas of study: Byzantine Studies (including related aspects of late Roman, early Christian, Western medieval, Slavic, and Near Eastern studies), Pre-Columbian Studies (of Mexico, Central America, and Andean South America), and Garden and Landscape Studies. Fellowships are open to graduate students and doctoral candidates. Deadlines vary. Non-US citizen applicants should check their visa status before applying.
Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW)
The Fellowships and Awards Program supports graduate study, literacy, and the creative arts through awards and grants ranging from $2,000 to $11,500. Numerous fellowships available to graduate students. Eligibility is restricted to women, and those who are either Canadian citizens or permanent residents in Canada. Deadline: early November.
Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) internships
CSIS offers full and part-time internships in the fall, spring and summer for undergraduates, advanced students, and recent graduates who are interested in gaining practical experience in public policy. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S, and at least a college junior in good standing, an advanced student or a recent graduate. Deadlines: early August (Fall), late November (Spring), mid-March (Summer).
Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program
The Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program offers internships in public policy located in Washington, DC, and at state-based policy organizations across the country featuring a $4,800 stipend. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. Deadline: December.
Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship

Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships are designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values in all fields of the humanities and social sciences, and particularly to help Ph.D. candidates in these fields complete their dissertation work in a timely manner. In addition to topics in religious studies or in ethics (philosophical or religious), dissertations appropriate to the Newcombe Fellowship competition might explore the ethical implications of foreign policy, the values influencing political decisions, the moral codes of other cultures, and religious or ethical issues reflected in history or literature. Applicants must be candidates for Ph.D. or Th.D. degrees in an American doctoral program at a graduate school located in the United States, and in the writing stage of his or her dissertation. Candidates working on D.Min., law, Psy.D., Ed.D. and other professional degrees are not eligible.
Essay contest for full-time juniors or seniors that is open to full-time undergraduate juniors and seniors at accredited U.S. four-year colleges and universities. International and non-citizen students, as well as students studying abroad are eligible, as long as they are registered as full-time juniors or seniors at their home institutions in the U.S. Contestants must have a faculty advisor. Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant for Artists
Awards five grants in the amount of $15,000 (Canadian) and subsequent grants of &18,000 each. No age limit but applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of submitting the application. Not for those pursuing abstract or nonrepresentational art. Rolling deadline.

International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF)
The Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) offers nine to twelve months of support to graduate students (of any citizenship) in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who are enrolled in PhD programs in the United States and conducting dissertation research on non-US topics. Eighty fellowships are awarded annually. Fellowship amounts vary depending on the research plan, with a per-fellowship average of $20,000. The fellowship includes participation in an SSRC-funded interdisciplinary workshop upon the completion of IDRF-funded research.
Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Advanced Studies
A two-year program intended to help Japanese nationals obtaining Ph.D. degrees in macroeconomics and preparing them to work as economists at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). JISP covers all reasonable expenses for two years of graduate study Deadline: January 31st
Japan Inter-American Development Bank Scholarship Program
Scholarship program for students from the Bank’s borrowing member countries (see website) who wish to pursue Master's degree in development-related fields, such as social sciences, business, public administration or other related disciplines (except law and medicine). WBI Scholarships Program (WBISP) comprises three separate scholarship and fellowship programs: the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP); the Japan Indonesia Presidential Scholarship Program (JIPS); and the Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Program (RSM). The World Bank administers the Scholarship Programs through the World Bank Institute (WBI). Scholarship recipients may attend accredited institutions offering Master's programs, located in any of the member countries. John Bayliss Radio Scholarship
The Bayliss Foundation has been distributing scholarships to outstanding broadcast students for over 23 years. Each award is in the amount of $5,000. Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship
Three major fellowships will be awarded. One up to $20,000 in any field of music, one of up to $20,000 in architectural design and history, art and design, theatre, dance, or instrumental or vocal music and one of up to $9,000 in art, architecture, dance, landscape architecture, theatre, or urban and regional planning.The fellowships are to be used by the recipients toward defraying the expenses of advanced study in the United States or abroad. The Kosciuszko Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of the application process for a special tuition scholarship program for undergraduate students of Polish descent. A $2,000 scholarship will be offered to 30 promising undergraduate students studying in the USA and pursuing degrees at the intersection of media, communication, political science, social studies, law and administration. National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Scholarships
NABJ awards scholarships annually to deserving students interested in pursuing careers in journalism. Scholarships are worth up to $2,500. All applications must be submitted online by the specified deadline. Student members of NABJ, foreign or American born, currently attending or entering an accredited four-year college/university in the U.S. or those who are candidates for graduate school are eligible for up to $2,500 per year.
Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting
Each year up to five $30,000 fellowships are awarded to new screenwriters. Each entry screenplay – an original feature film screenplay of 90 – 120 pages – must be an original work in English and may be by no more than two authors. Stage plays, translations, and adaptations are ineligible. This fellowship is open to undergraduates, M.F.A. students, or alumni who writes in English and has not earned more than $5,000 writing fictional work for film or television.

Phillips Exeter Academy Fellowships & Internships
Phillips Exeter Academy is a co-educational residential school serving 1000 students in grades 9 through 12, and even post-graduate level. The school offers one-year internships that vary depending on need of the institution. The three fellowships offered are the Dissertation Year Fellowships, Writer in Residence (George Bennett Fellowship), and the John and Elizabeth Phillips Fellowships.
Rotary Peace Fellows are leaders promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful resolution of conflict throughout their lives, in their careers, and through service activities. South East Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) Tuition Fellowships
United States and international students can apply for SEASSI’s tuition scholarships to reduce the fees of the summer institute. FLAS funding can also be used to pay for the summer institute. SEASSI offers course instruction in Burmese, Hmong, Javanese, Indonesian, Khmer, Lao, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese. The Student Academy Awards is a national student film competition conducted by the Academy and the Academy Foundation. Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program
The Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program provides early career individuals with the opportunity to spend 12 weeks at the National Academies in Washington, DC learning about science and technology policy and the role that scientists and engineers play in advising the nation. Each year, applicants from around the world become part of a National Academies' committee, board, or unit where they are assigned to a mentor and learn about the world of science and technology policy. Environmental Research and Education Foundation
Scholarships are awarded by EREF to recognize excellence in master’s, doctoral or post-doctoral waste management research and education. The Youth Activity Fund Grant supports high school students and college undergraduates. Its goal is to foster a new generation of explorers dedicated to the advancement of the scientific knowledge of our world. Awards range from $500 to $5,000. We recommend keeping your budget realistic. The average award is approximately $1,500. Only a few grants may be awarded at the $5,000 level. Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program
Thermo Fisher Scientific is offering our future science scholars an opportunity to win $10,000 in scholarship funding for the Fall semester. This scholarship was created to help provide educational opportunities for the future generation of scientists. Graduate students or undergraduate students must be enrolled in an accredited college for the Fall semester to qualify for this scholarship, and majoring in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related life-science field. A pre-selected committee will award two $10,000 scholarships and four $5,000 scholarships among the candidates. To qualify for the scholarship, students must have a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and be enrolled in an accredited college for university for the following Fall semester. In addition to these qualifications, students must also be legal United States residents, meaning that students possessing appropriate Visa status in order to study in the United States are also eligible.
The quad fellowship is a joint initiative between four countries: Australia, India, Japan, and the United States. This scholarship program provides a stipend for students in STEM fields to be used for academic expenses and networking opportunities with other Quad Fellows to engage in special programming with a special emphasis on cultural exchange. Eligibility: must be citizens of Quad countries (Australia, India, Japan, or the US) or any of 10 Southeast Asian countries, have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent by time of program start, academic achievement, and must have already applied to an eligible STEM graduate program in the US for the next academic year.
