Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Award Description

The U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, and early career professionals to study, conduct research, and/or teach English abroad for six months to a year. It can also be used for creative or performing arts projects. In addition, Critical Language Enhancement Awards are given to grantees for study of critical need foreign languages before or during their grant period.

This extremely versatile award prioritizes building mutual understanding between individuals of different nationalities and is focused on building lasting partnerships abroad. You can embark on this program in any discipline and any subject one of over 140 countries worldwide.

Award Details

Each Fulbright recipient receives at minimum:

  • A living stipend based on cost of living in the target country.
  • Airfare to and from the target country.
  • Accident & sickness health benefits
  • 24/7 mental health support line for urgent and non-urgent situations
  • 12 months of non-competitive eligibility hiring status in U.S. federal government jobs.

Awards can also include tuiition expenses, English language teaching prep courses (for some ETA recipients), or various one-time allowances. These awards are country-specific.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be U.S. citizens or nationals at the time of application deadline.
  • Have a bachelor's degree or equivalent by the time of grant start (graduating seniors are eligible to apply).
  • Meet language requirements of award for which they are applying (only in the cases of awards which require language)

Application Timeline

  • 2025-2026 Fulbright competition opens: April 2, 2024 
  • OSU campus deadline*: extended to August 16, 2024 5 pm U.S. west coast time
  • OSU campus Interviews: starting September 4 through tbd, 2024
  • Fulbright National Deadline: October 8, 2024

*If applicants wish to receive OSU campus endorsement on their application, they must turn their application in to OSU National and Global Scholarships Advising by this date. Campus endorsement includes an interview and feedback session from OSU community members.
