Congratulations to Ellen McPherson ‘21 who was recently promoted to Finalist status for the 2021-2022 Fulbright U.S. Student Program! Ellen, who recently graduated from OSU with an Honors bachelor’s degree in German and Environmental Sciences, will soon be leaving for Thüringen, Germany to complete an English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) in an elementary or secondary school. According to Ellen, “I am most looking forward to exploring ecosystems in Thüringen and learning more about environmental values and policies in Germany as well as gaining classroom experience.” She plans to engage her students by promoting environmental activism and teaching about global ecosystems. In Show of Hope, 2021-2022 OSU Gilman and Freeman-ASIA Scholars Make Plans to Study Abroad Despite Uncertainty

Tiffany Navas, a junior in Kinesiology, applied to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship in the hopes that it would fund her study abroad to Japan. However, less than a month before her departure date, Navas pivoted her plans to pursue a study abroad program in Seoul, South Korea as a result of ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. “I knew there were going to be a lot of ‘what-ifs’ and ‘maybes,’” says Navas, “but I decided to take the opportunity anyway.”
