Gilman Scholarship/Gilman-McCain Scholarship

Award Description

The Gilman Scholarship is meant to provide students who are eligible for a Pell Grant with the resources and funding travel internationally on academic experiences. The program also aims to encourage students to study and intern in a diverse array of countries and world regions. This scholarship offers up to $5,000 in support of a study or intern abroad program of your choice.

Award amounts will vary up to $5,000 depending on the length of study and student need. Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad in a country in which the language is predominately spoken may be considered for the Critical Need Language Award, for a total maximum award of $8,000.

New: in 2023 Gilman now offers a STEM Supplemental Award of up to $1,000 to conduct STEM research associated with their study abroad program

The Gilman-McCain Scholarship is a congressionally funded initiative of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State and named after the late senator John S. McCain from Arizona. The Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for child dependents of active duty service members to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs.

Anyone applying for the Gilman Scholarship or the Gilman-McCain Scholarship should work closely with OSU GO in order to select an education abroad program that fits your goals.
